Everyone wants perfect looking skin. Whether it is reversing the signs of aging or that flawless completion. For me, I just want to combat my dry skin, which I have 365 days a year, all year through, no matter the season. My face especially, is like some no-man’s land dessert where every drop of moisture is quickly absorbs and the cracks start to show again. Dry skin without make up is fairly unnoticeable. Dry skin with make up is a flaky show no one wants to see. The foundation picks up all the dry skin and one would think you are crumbling away.
In today’s post I share with you some of my favourite products that have helped me combat my dry skin, and give me a dewy and fresh faced look. I have been using all these products for over a month now and have seen such a difference in my skin.
Please remember to try a test-patch when using any new products, and be careful of any sensitivity you may have. Use of products is at own risk.
In the morning I wash my face with the new Neutrogena Hydro Boost Cleanser Water Gel. I love the smooth gel that lathers into a soft foam and washes away even my waterproof mascara and any dirt from the night before. It leaves my skin feeling super smooth and subtle without feeling tight and uncomfortable afterwards. (You know that feeling you can sometimes get after washing your face where you feel the need to pull your face in weird and strange ways to counter the tough sensation on your face?) I use this cleanser morning and (most) nights and it completely cleans and refreshes my face.
Next I use 3 drops of The Body Shop’s Oils of Life Intensely Revitalizing Facial Oil. A few drops are all you need to work into your skin, and I like to concentrate on areas that particularly get flakey, like around my eyes and forehead. I love that The Body Shop uses natural products of black cumin oil for antioxidants, rosehip oil for Omega 3 and 6, and camellia oil rich in oleic acid that helps protect skin from damage. Along with some other good stuff, I use this oil first to absorb into my skin before adding any other product. Your face will probably look a bit shiny, but don’t worry, it eventually softens into your skin.
After that, I apply a small amount of the new Neutrogena Hydro Boost gel-cream for dry skin. This gel cream is amazing! It’s light-weight consistency completely absorbs into the skin and hydrates it from the inside out. It doesn’t leave a sticky residue and lasts all day. Most importantly it also creates a barrier to lock in the moisture you’ve just applied to your skin, but also to block out the harsh environment. You can read all the other amazing good stuff on the packaging.
If I’m not going to wear any make up for the day, then I’m good to go from this point on. My skin will last most of the day, while trying to be better on my water intake. (I’m getting there!) But if I’m going to apply make up, next I’ll use my NYX HD Studio Photogenic Primer Base. Not only does it do the basic job of a primer and prepare your skin for make up application and blur fine lines and imperfections, it refreshes the skin and leaves it with a soft dewy look. Be careful though, a little goes a long way! (Or else you’ll turn into a blue oompa-loompa! You’ve been warned!)
After my make up is complete, I spray a few pumps of Ultra Radiance Facial Re-Hydrating Mist by Benefit. I’ve spoken about this before in a Favourites YouTube video, but I’ve rediscovered it’s amazing potential lately. After you’ve applied so much powdery products on your face, this mist adds some life and brings back the dewiness. It also helps your make up last all day and smells like fresh cucumbers!
At the end of the day, on the days I’m feeling lazy (which tends to be most days), I use my Garnier SkinActive Miceller Oil-Infused Cleansing Water for dry and sensitive skin. (That was a mouth full!) The oil-infused water is life! It leaves my skin feeling soft, smooth and hydrated. Using two cotton pads it easily wipes away make up, especially that tough waterproof mascara and helps you not feel guilty about not doing a full of skin routine when you’re half asleep. I would advise giving it a gentle toss before each use to help mix the oil, or else all you’re getting is oil on your face.
